Statement from Mayor Chuck Brawner regarding City of Katy’s response to the excessive rainfall and flooding from Hurricane Harvey: "Throughout the night, our Emergency Operations Team and Katy Fire and Police Departments have been working under extreme conditions to make as many rescues as possible. The City received over 125 requests for rescues last night. The dangerous conditions that our first responders faced hampered their efforts to respond to all of the requests. Upon daylight, efforts continued while they were able to better assess the affected areas. We continue to receive many rescue requests. Katy ISD has set up a couple of shelters, and many of our rescued citizens have been taken to Morton Ranch High School. Yesterday, I requested additional resources from the State of Texas to assist our first responders. Early this morning we received 5 airboats, with an additional 6 coming in from Austin. I also requested National Guard assistance with rescues. The National Guard has arrived and is coordinating with our Police and Fire personnel. We also have many brave volunteers who are assistanting us. Our rescue operations are ongoing at this time. Our Emergency Operations Team and all responders are working diligently around the clock to serve our great City. Please stay safe and God Bless Katy! -Mayor Chuck Brawner" Thank you for all that you are doing!! We are Katy Strong and we will get through this!!
